Our Resource

The Madison Aquifer, spanning 2,000 square miles, harbors a massive 20 million tonnes of lithium reserves locked within deep formation geothermal brines. When we unlock these resources, it could turn the U.S. from a significant lithium importer, into a self-reliant lithium producer, altering the global battery market landscape significantly.

The Formation

The Paleozoic formation is a doubly plunging anticline with over 10,000 feet of structural closure, covering a geographical area of 56 x 35 miles.  The sedimentary aquifer also indicates temperature and pressure attributes that make it ideally suited to accept and safely store massive amounts of CO2 (up to more than 26 Gt).

No less than six sealing formations are present at the formation location, providing redundant assurance of effective CO2 storage, with one lower Triassic Zone identified as a well-cemented (lowest-risk) sealing zone, shown to have exceptional sealing characteristics via diagenetic alteration.

World-Class Attributes

The resource is a north-south sedimentary formation with deep formation brines representing two (2) thick sediment-filled saline reservoirs with a combined thickness of 1,100 feet.  740’ of core samples were recovered from the reservoir feedstock, in addition to a 12,800-foot stratigraphic test well that recovered geothermal fluid samples from the strata, representing outstanding metal recovery concentrations (along with a very low magnesium to lithium ratio of less than 2:1) and ideal CO2 sequestration potential.  Making the Madison Aquifer the largest contiguous geothermal brine strata by volume in North America, held by a single undiluted operator.

Our Approach

We are intentional about building the nation’s first closed-loop battery supply chain on-site, powered by renewable geothermal energy, and applying carbon capture technologies.  This ‘trifecta’ approach employs the latest technology for harnessing geothermal energy from sedimentary sources, direct high-purity lithium extraction technology (DLE) and refinement, and geophysical technologies to monitor substantial CO2 fluid re-injections back into our resource targets.
